Case study · Apparel

An apparel brand takes 30,000 variants to the department stores.

An established apparel brand ran a healthy wholesale business but had no direct presence on the marketplaces its department-store partners were building. With Acenda, it launched on Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Belk as a marketplace seller — keeping wholesale relationships intact.

01 · The customer

A wholesale apparel brand watching retail move online without it.

The brand had sold into department stores for years — a seasonal line across men’s and women’s, with deep size runs and colorways adding up to more than 30,000 sellable variants.

As Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Belk built out their marketplace programs, the brand saw the opportunity: sell its full catalog directly on those sites — including styles the stores never bought wholesale — while keeping the wholesale relationships it depended on.

02 · The challenge

Apparel variation logic breaks most syndication tools.

Size and color variation is where apparel catalogs go to die: each channel groups variants differently, sizes chart differently, and images attach at different levels. Multiply that by 30,000 variants and seasonal drops, and manual management is impossible.

The brand also needed clean separation between wholesale line sheets and marketplace listings — same products, completely different data shapes — without maintaining two catalogs.

03 · The work

One catalog that speaks wholesale and marketplace fluently.

Acenda structured the catalog around a single source of truth with per-channel variation logic: Nordstrom’s grouping, Macy’s size charts, Belk’s category tree — all generated from the same records. Seasonal drops publish to every channel at once.

Returns, order routing, and inventory sync run through the brand’s existing ERP and 3PL, which Acenda connected rather than replaced. Sell-through reporting shows wholesale and marketplace performance side by side.

04 · The results

Direct marketplace revenue on top of the wholesale base.

First Nordstrom sale came six weeks after kickoff, with Macy’s and Belk following. In year one, marketplaces grew to 35% of e-commerce revenue — including full-price sales on styles wholesale buyers had passed on.

Seasonal launches that once meant weeks of channel-by-channel data work now publish in a day. The brand plans each season once, and every channel follows.

Your full line deserves more than a buyer’s edit.
