Post-purchase
Nordstrom returns, refunds and settlement
The work does not end at delivery. Returns, refunds, fees and payouts all have to land back in your systems accurately — and fashion teams need to understand how returns and adjustments affect the proceeds from each order.
Returns and refunds, both directions
Return and refund events move between Nordstrom and your systems so your records and the channel's agree — a refund issued on the channel is reflected in your order record, and a refund you issue is reported back.
Payouts matched to orders
Nordstrom's settlement statements are ingested into a channel financial ledger and matched line by line against orders, refunds, commission and adjustments. The question “what were we actually paid for this order, and why is it not the order total” gets an answer with the arithmetic attached.
Adjustments are itemized, not absorbed
Operator adjustments — per-return charges, account-level corrections, manual accounting documents — show up as their own ledger entries rather than being quietly netted out of a payout figure. Each is deduplicated against its source transaction, so a re-pulled statement does not double-count.
Fashion economics, made visible
Gross order value and settled proceeds answer different questions. Refunds, commissions and adjustments change what is paid out. Acenda makes these channel transactions visible per order and per channel, giving your finance team a clearer basis for reconciliation. Profitability analysis also needs costs such as goods, fulfillment and marketing; a settlement ledger alone does not establish net margin.
Understand Nordstrom marketplace returns and payouts separately
A return request, a received item, a refund and a settlement adjustment describe different events. Do not assume that recording one means all the others are complete. Follow Nordstrom's current workflow and reconcile the events the channel supplies with your order records.
Acenda connects available return and refund activity with channel settlement data. Your team can then investigate the transaction behind a difference instead of treating the payout total as the entire explanation.
Net amount in this example
These amounts are invented solely to illustrate reconciliation. They are not Nordstrom rates, payout timing or a statement of how commissions are reversed after refunds. Actual statements may include different entries, tax treatment, timing and adjustments.
Make unresolved differences actionable
For a discrepancy, compare the order reference, refund reference, settlement period and adjustment entries. Some differences reflect timing; others need investigation. Establish who owns that review and what supporting records finance needs. The ledger supports reconciliation — it is not a substitute for the accounting system or a complete profitability model.
