What business and account details does Macy's require?

The account requirements below come from the Macy's Marketplace partner site FAQ. Macy's publicly lists Acenda among the selected feed aggregators that Macy's Marketplace sellers can use to upload their items.

  • W-9. A valid W-9 whose first line matches IRS records and the company name on the seller account.
  • Tax and bank. A U.S. tax ID, and a U.S. bank account that accepts USD.
  • Address. A U.S. business address and phone.
  • Warehouse. A domestic warehouse for shipping and for return processing.
  • Customer service. A customer-service address and phone that meet the INFORM Consumers Act.
  • Past business. A DUNS number if you have done business with Macy's or Bloomingdale's before.
  • Payments. A J.P. Morgan account, required before the seller account can become active. Sellers are paid weekly into a J.P. Morgan escrow account.

What are Macy's shipping and returns requirements?

Ship within 48 business hours with valid tracking from U.S. warehouses. Parcel carriers are UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, Lone Star Overnight (LSO), LaserShip, and OnTrac. Freight needs prior approval through Macy's LTL program.

Most items ship in new, non-branded brown-box packaging. Poly mailers are fine for small items. Do not use another marketplace's branding, and do not include promotional inserts.

Customers can return marketplace items via UPS or in person at Macy's stores. Sellers use UPS for returns — Macy's provides the UPS account unless the seller asks otherwise — and need a U.S. warehouse for return processing. Process returns within two business days of receipt.

The operating detail lives on Macy's orders and fulfillment and returns and settlement.

What are Macy's assortment rules?

List only items within the categories agreed in your contract. Price items competitively. Sell only items not currently sold through Macy's own assortment. Every product needs a GS1-certified UPC. Multi-box items are discouraged. Items over 150 lbs or needing scheduled delivery need approval and special guidelines.

What slows sellers down?

At the application stage, common delays are a W-9 name that does not match the seller account or IRS records, escrow that is not ready, and missing or non-GS1 UPCs.

Missing attributes, nonstandard color or size values, duplicate color-and-size combinations, too few images, or image links that point at a webpage instead of the file also hold listings. Zero stock hides an approved item.

Requirements can change. Confirm current terms on the Macy's Marketplace partner site FAQ and during onboarding.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a J.P. Morgan account to sell on Macy's Marketplace?

Yes. After you create your Mirakl seller account, Macy's invites you to set up a J.P. Morgan account, and the seller account cannot become active until it exists. Payouts arrive weekly in a J.P. Morgan escrow account.

Why does my W-9 have to match IRS records?

Macy's requires the first line of the W-9 to match the IRS record tied to your tax ID and the company name on your seller account. A mismatch is a common onboarding delay.

Do I need a DUNS number for Macy's Marketplace?

Only if you have done business with Macy's or Bloomingdale's before. In that case, Macy's asks for your DUNS number.
